Kouch­ner: I will at­tend the an­nounce­ment of Kur­dis­tan’s In­de­pen­dence

The for­mer French For­eign Min­is­ter Bernard Kouch­ner said dur­ing the an­niver­sary cer­e­mony of the as­sas­si­na­tion of Dr. Ab­dul­rah­man Ghasem­lou that the Kur­dis­tan Govern­ment will an­nounce in­de­pen­dence and “I will at­tend that oc­ca­sion.” Kouch­ner, dur­ing his speech at the cer­e­mony in Paris, talked about the po­lit­i­cal and the se­cu­rity sit­u­a­tion in Iraq and said: “The cur­rent sit­u­a­tion in Iraq has cre­ated a very sig­nif­i­cant op­por­tu­nity to the Kurds to make the even­tual de­ci­sion about their des­tiny.” “Due to the new sit­u­a­tion in Iraq, the po­lit­i­cal bal­ance in Iraq and the re­gion has changed, and the Kurds have gained a his­tor­i­cal op­por­tu­nity to an­nounce their in­de­pen­dent state,” Kouch­ner, a his­tor­i­cal friend of the Kurds, told the at­ten­dants. “Kurds will seize this op­por­tu­nity and an­nounce their in­de­pen­dent state, and I will visit Er­bil to at­tend the an­nounce­ment of the In­de­pen­dent Kur­dish State.”
