The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS -

In a visit by Assistant Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Kurdistan Region and meeting with the Region’s President Massoud Barzani, the Kurdish President announced that Kurds are not going to stay inside the fire of Iraq forever.

In a press release by the Kurdistan Region’s Presidency Office, President Barzani met on Tuesday 15 July, 2014, Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, As- sistant Secretary General of the National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and an accompanying delegation in Salahhadin.

In the meeting Barzani reiterated to the visiting delegation that Kurdistan cannot stand the sectarian extremism and the violations against the constitution of Iraq.

The press release briefs the topics discussed in the meeting between the Iranian and the Kurdish officials.

According to the statement Moghaddam said that bilateral ties between Kurdistan Region and Iran are historical and his government’s stance towards Kurdistan Region is clear and friendly.

“He (Moghaddam) hoped that the irresponsible comments and the atmosphere created in the media after the Mosul events does not affect the brotherhood relations between Kurdistan Region and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” reads the press release.

Addressing the current security and political situation as well as the political process and government formation process in Iraq, Moghaddam appreciated the role of President Barzani in Iraq’s political process, and hoped that the problems are resolved in the nearest future and stability and peace is returned to the Iraqi people.

Responding Moghaddam, Barzani said: "Kurdistan Region is always supporting brotherhood and peace between nations and groups." He also reiterated the clear stance of Kurdistan Region’s political leadership regarding the current situations in Iraq and said that the factor behind all these issues is the existence of the culture of unilateralism and mis-governance.

Barzani explained the threats posed by terrorists on Iraq, Kurdistan Region and the region and said that he had warned the authorities in Baghdad about the threats of terrorism in Mosul six months in ad- vance. However, according to Barzani, Baghdad authorities did not take the threats seriously, but after they lost the city to the terrorists, they tried to hide their mistakes by starting to blame the Kurdistan Region.

Talking about the stance of Kurdistan Region about the situation in Iraq, Barzani told the Iranian delegation that Kurdistan “cannot stay inside the conflict of sectarian extremism and mis-governance of Iraq forever.
