Kurdish President visits Peshmarga frontiers and promises to provide them with heavy arms

On the occasion of Eid al Fitir, Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani visited the Peshmarga Forces protecting the borders of the newly liberated Kurdish areas in Mosul, Kirkuk and Diala Provinces.

Visiting Kirkuk frontiers

During his visit to the Kirkuk frontiers, President Barzani told the Peshmargas that his visit was to congratulate them on the occasion of the Eid on the behalf of the people of Kurdistan and thank them for protecting their homeland, Kurdistan.

“Peshmarga is making the history now and creating a future for its nation, which is a big honor,” President Barzani told the Peshmargas. “You sacrifice your lives so that Kurdistani nation lives in liberty and freedom.”

“Our freedom and survival is the result of the bloodshed of our martyrs and they are a source of pride forever,” reads a press release by President Barzani on the occasion of the Eid.

Visiting Garmain fronts

President Barzani, accompanied by a delegation of officials, paid a visit to the Garmian areas and met with the Peshmarga Forces in Jalawla and Saadiya frontiers.

During that visit Barzani delivered a speech, in which he stated that they have tried a lot to create a democratic Iraq, “but the other parties didn’t want democracy to win in Iraq and didn’t want Iraq to stay united.”

“We frankly say we cannot do more than that and we have already done our best and cannot wait for an unknown destiny,” Barzani said adding that the Kurdish leadership works on two parallel things, first helping the political process in Iraq and the second is working on the implementation of the self-determination right of the Kurdistan nation.

Regarding the role of the Peshmarga, Barzani said they have a heavy and historical responsibility to secure a life for its nation.

“The existence of Pesh- marga means the existence and survival of Kurdistan,” he said. “Thanks to Peshmarga forces Kurdistan lives in peace and security and 1.2 million refugees benefit from this stability in Kurdistan as well.

Commenting on the complaints by some people and groups about Peshmargas’ seizure of these areas, Barzani said they should be asked “what would have happened if Peshmargas were not there to control these areas? Who would control them then?”

“Since the September Revolution the slogan of Kurdistan nation has been democracy for Iraq,” explained Barzani. “During the 1991 revolution two Iraqi Army units that had destroyed Kurdistan Region fall into the hands of the Kurds, but they didn’t hurt one single Iraqi soldier. This was an incred- ible thing shown by the Kurdish nation to prove their struggle for democracy and co-existence.”

Visiting West of Tigris

Another visit of the Kurdish President was to the frontlines of West of Tigris River, where Barzani contratulated the Peshmarga forces on the occasion of Eid al Fitir and said that this security and political situation is temporary and it would come to an end soon. However Peshmarga Forces have to be always ready and prepared to confront any threats, hence they have to be provided with all their needs and requirements.

President Barzani promised to improve the living standards of the Peshmargas’ in the frontlines and that of their families back home. Additionally he promised to provide them with more arms and he announced that they will buy heave arms for Peshmarga Forces in the near future.

“We never wanted to trespass over the rights of anyone, but Peshmarga has always been ready to protect its country against any threats.”

President Barzani asked the Peshmarga Forces to protect “your brothers and sisters” in Western Kurdistan and support them the same way as they protect and support the people of Kurdistan Region.

He also asked the Governor of Duhok to help the resident of the West of Tigris areas, who have been living in very difficult situations recently due to pressures by the insurgents such as cutting power and water supply from them.

Visiting Mosul fronts

As part of the series of visits to Peshmarga frontlines, Barzani and his accompanying delegation visited the Mosul areas and met with the Peshmarge forces and officers.

During the meetings President Barzani talked about the sacrifices and efforts of the Peshmarga Forces during these hard times and he paid tribute to those Peshmargas who lost their lives for the sake of their people and nation and also wished fast recovery for the injured Peshmargas.

He also reiterated their full support for the Peshmarga Forces and said thanks to them Kurdistan is reaching a bright future and “the ultimate victory is near.”
