The 3rd of August and the hopes of Kurdish People

The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS - By Hassan Shingali

Today, exactly a month has elapsed since the attacks on Shingal began by the IS. A month that feels like a year. In 2007, Shingal was attacked by terrorists. As a result, hundreds were killed and thousands wounded. The two years, 2007 and 2014, have been ominous years for the Yazidi community. In 2007, two car bombs exploded in the communities of Sibae and Gir Izerand causing a lot of damage. On the 3th of August, another more devastating calamity struck the Yazidis.

Days have passed and months will pass too. Shingali citizens are building their hopes to return back to their homes. After the attack of the ISIS, thousands of people fled to the Kurdistan Region and live in very miserable conditions. Their number is huge in relation to the places they have fled to. Taking a walk to those families who have found a refuge, one will observe the poor situation they live in and each family bear a very tragic story to tell since they have suffered a lot.

Are we going to face the same Anfal and the same tragedy that we faced many years ago by the Iraqi regime? Aren’t we mindful and aware of what is happening to us and are we going to let the history repeat itself? We, the Kurds, have gone through many tragedies. It is time to unite to break the chains of oppression. It is time to unite to achieve freedom and independence.

We, as Kurds, have faced many calamities and suffered tremendously, but we kept fighting and we will fight for the final victory. We have sacrificed hundreds of thousands of our people, both Peshmarga and civilians, to enjoy a dignified life under the flag of freedom. Now, we discern the light at the end of the tunnel at last. Soon our beloved country will attain total independence.
