School’s Hous­ing Refugees as the School Year Nears

schools that are cur­rently pre­oc­cu­pied, 90 per­cent of the oc­cu­pied schools be­ing lo­cated in Duhok. It ap­pears that the UNIEF(the UN or­ga­ni­za­tion for chil­dren) plan to take fur­ther ac­tion to make sure that the chil­dren don't miss out on too much of their ed­u­ca­tion then what has al­ready been lost.

“The KRG has dis­cussed this ur­gent is­sue in the Coun­cil of Min­is­ters and is mak­ing ur­gent plans for camp space iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and con­struc­tion,” stated Elko­rany, Iraq's own Ex­ter­nal Re­la­tions Man­ager for UNICEF, to the me­dia. "Ex­ten­sive plans are also be­ing made to re­lo­cate IDPs as soon as shel­ter al­ter­na­tives are ready.”

Hope­fully, with fur­ther UNIEF in­volve­ment, the refugees will find some­where su­tiable to stay while the chil­dren's ed­u­ca­tion can get back on track.
