Korek Telecom continuously struggles to expand its humanitarian assistance and efforts to help the IDP who have become the victim of the recent security issues throughout Iraq.

Korek supports and sponsors various civil society institutions in different parts of Iraq. It makes these attempts possible by using its communication technology, which in turn helps both the customers and those who wish to help and donate. In order to contribute in the humanitarian tasks, Korek has recently introduced a new method to collect donation from its users for the IDP in Iraq. For users who want to send their contributions, all they have to do is to send an empty short text message (SMS) to the provided code (2999) which cost them only (1,200) IQD for each text. The first part of this donation has been publicly given to Barzani Charity Foundation and Iraqi Red Crescent on September 10, 2014. Both organizations will then directly distribute the rev- enues of this contribution among IDP all over Iraq.

During the ceremony of handing over the donation collected from Korek users’ SMS to the organiza- tions, Korek thanked all the participants who have reached out their contribution through SMS and encouraged other users to do the same. It also extended gratitude to its staff members who have contributed with their salary to help the IDP. After that, both Barzani Charity Foundation and Iraqi Red Crescent highly appreciated Korek’s new attempt to help the IDP.

Korek humanitarian aid campaigns started on August 11, 2014 and it is still ongoing. Hundreds of tons of basic needs and tents have been distributed among the IDP in different provinces in Iraq like Sinjar, Makhmuor, Kirkuk, Mosul, Talafar. The distribution campaigns were supported by Township Directors, representatives of the churches, religious institutions, and international and civil society organizations.

The Korek staff always does their best to make sure that they deliver humanitarian assistance to the IDP all over Iraq without any discrimination. Korek strongly believes in supporting the IDP and it has been striving to help those who have left their homes as result of the current security crisis.
