Kerry re­it­er­ates US support for the Kur­dish Re­gion

In a phone call to Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Pres­i­dent Mas­soud Barzani, US For­eign Min­is­ter John Kerry re­peated Wash­ing­ton’s support for the Kur­dish Re­gion.

The two sides dis­cussed lat­est de­vel­op­ments in Iraq and Kerry’s re­cent tour to Iraq and the Mid­dle East­ern states.

The two of­fi­cials fur­ther asked for more ne­go­ti­a­tions be­tween all sides in Iraq in fight­ing against ter­ror­ism and im­prov­ing se­cu­rity and sta­bil­ity in the state, a large north­ern part of it now is run by the mil­i­tants of the Is­lamic State (IS).

Ac­cord­ing to the re­gion’s pres­i­dency web­site, Kerry has re­it­er­ated White House’s support for the Kur­dish Gov­ern­ment in its fight­ing against the ji­hadists.

Kerry did not visit Er­bil dur­ing his tour to the re­gion.
