PM Barzani received Spanish Ambassador
Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani received the Spanish Ambassador to Baghdad Jose Maria Ferre in Erbil on October 16, 2014.
PM Barzani expressed his happiness for the Ambassador's first visit to Kurdistan Region.
Barzani and Ferre discussed the security and the political situations in Baghdad and the region and the Ambassador Ferre expressed his concerns about the recent developments, but also mentioned that despite all the security deteriorations in many parts of Iraq, he was impressed by the stability and security he has witnessed in Erbil during the couple of days of his stay here and praised the KRG for this.
The two officials discussed the role of Spain in the international coalition against ISIS. In addition, they considered that the role of Peshmarga forces is vital in the war against ISIS. The Spanish Ambassador also said that his country's Parliament is organizing a session to discuss this issue in the near future.
He also reiterated his government's commitment in continuing its support for Kurdistan in its counterterrorism war.
The bilateral relations between the two countries was another topic of discussion in the meeting and PM Barzani called for more military and humanitarian support from Spain. The Ambassador Ferre replied saying they will continue helping Kurdistan and improving their political and economic relations; and they will encourage their businessmen and investors to start investing in Kurdistan.
Moreover, both Barzani and Ferre reiterated the importance of Kurdistan Region's participation in the new Iraqi government to form a successful present and the future political process in the country.
