PM Barzani re­ceived Span­ish Am­bas­sador

Kur­dis­tan Re­gion's Prime Min­is­ter Nechir­van Barzani re­ceived the Span­ish Am­bas­sador to Bagh­dad Jose Maria Ferre in Er­bil on Oc­to­ber 16, 2014.

PM Barzani ex­pressed his hap­pi­ness for the Am­bas­sador's first visit to Kur­dis­tan Re­gion.

Barzani and Ferre dis­cussed the se­cu­rity and the po­lit­i­cal sit­u­a­tions in Bagh­dad and the re­gion and the Am­bas­sador Ferre ex­pressed his con­cerns about the re­cent de­vel­op­ments, but also men­tioned that de­spite all the se­cu­rity de­te­ri­o­ra­tions in many parts of Iraq, he was im­pressed by the sta­bil­ity and se­cu­rity he has wit­nessed in Er­bil dur­ing the cou­ple of days of his stay here and praised the KRG for this.

The two of­fi­cials dis­cussed the role of Spain in the in­ter­na­tional coali­tion against ISIS. In ad­di­tion, they con­sid­ered that the role of Pesh­marga forces is vi­tal in the war against ISIS. The Span­ish Am­bas­sador also said that his coun­try's Par­lia­ment is or­ga­niz­ing a ses­sion to dis­cuss this is­sue in the near fu­ture.

He also re­it­er­ated his gov­ern­ment's com­mit­ment in con­tin­u­ing its support for Kur­dis­tan in its coun­tert­er­ror­ism war.

The bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween the two coun­tries was another topic of dis­cus­sion in the meet­ing and PM Barzani called for more mil­i­tary and hu­man­i­tar­ian support from Spain. The Am­bas­sador Ferre replied say­ing they will con­tinue help­ing Kur­dis­tan and im­prov­ing their po­lit­i­cal and eco­nomic re­la­tions; and they will en­cour­age their busi­ness­men and in­vestors to start in­vest­ing in Kur­dis­tan.

More­over, both Barzani and Ferre re­it­er­ated the im­por­tance of Kur­dis­tan Re­gion's par­tic­i­pa­tion in the new Iraqi gov­ern­ment to form a suc­cess­ful present and the fu­ture po­lit­i­cal process in the coun­try.
