The Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo Fazil Mirani, in an interview with Al-Arabiya Hadath Satellite TV channel, talked about the political process in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and the current security situation in the area.

Mirani said the British forces are training the Iraqi and Kurdish forces on weapons which are expected to be used against the Islamic State. He confirmed that the available weapons are not enough for Peshmarha forces to defeat IS completely; Peshmarga are fighting against a terrorist state that owns developing weapons. This is why Peshmarga have to be better supported in all respects.

Mirani revealed that the Iraqi Army has developing weapons and the devices used to find and defuse mines and bombs while the Kurdish forces lack such sophisticated weapons. He asked the allied countries to provide the Kurdish forces with what is needed to defeat the IS.

Mirani criticized the Iraqi Government officials for not taking Peshmarga roles against IS group into considerations. “Peshmarga forces have liberated many important areas so far, including Mosul Dam, Rabia’a, %80 of Zummar area, Makhmour and Gwer. But unfortunately no officials from the Iraqi Government or the Ministry of Defense have appreciated Peshmarga for achieving such victories,” noted Mirani.

Mirani also said that Iraq and Kurdistan Region have to work together since IS fighters are present in areas under the control of both.

Regarding the economic situation in Kurdistan Region, Mirani said “The financial crisis has noth- ing to do with the Iraqi Finance Minister. The issue is related to the ways of how to run the country. There is no government in the world that cut the salary of its employees who are serving their people and their country. When the decision of cutting the salary of the employees was made, no one from the Iraqi Government or from other neighboring Arab countries protested.”

Mirani believes if the Iraqi Government wants Kurdistan Region stay within the country, it should make Kurdish people feel comfortable and satisfied.

Mr. Fazil Mirani hoped the current Iraqi Government would learn from the previous cabinets’ mistakes and never repeat them again.
