Kurdish Intelligence Chief to brief the European Parliament
Masrour Barzani, Head of the National Security Council of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, will visit Brussels to talk to the EU officials.
Barzani will talk to the European Foreign Affairs committee about the Kurdish fight against the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Iraq and Kurdistan, and the Peshmerga Forces' needs in this war, hoping for more support from Europe.
Several countries have started training programs to support Peshmerga forces. Masrour Barzani has lobbied for more heavy weapons from the West to defeat the ex- tremist group.
Recently, Barzani told the New Yorker that Iraq exists only in the minds of the people of the White House. “We need our own laws, our own rules, our own country, and we are going to get them.”
He said that the United States has prevented the Kurds from acquiring advanced weapons in the past.
“We never got any of that. We’ve got Kalashnikov rifles from the nineteen-seventies. The Americans never gave us anything, and they’ve blocked us from acquiring new weapons."
