Hungary and Italy to support Kurdish forces
President Barzani Meets Hungarian Government Delegation
On November 10, Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani welcomed a Hungarian government delegation that included Hungary’s Minister of State for Security Policy and International Cooperation, István Mikola, secretary of State for Defense, Tamás Vargha, and the Hungarian Ambassador to Iraq.
The Hungarian delegation praised the role of the KRG in the fight against ISIS terrorists and reiterated their country’s full support to the KRG. They also praised the KRG for accepting large numbers of refugees and IDPS from other parts of Iraq.
István Mikola said that President Barzani’s visit to Hungary back in 2012 paved the way for mutual cooperation between the two sides and added that his country is keen to further develop ties with the KRG.
President Barzani expressed his thanks to the government of Hungary for its military support for the peshmerga forces and expressed KRG’s readiness to expand economic relations with Hungary.
President Barzani Receives Italian
On November 12, President Barzani received a high Italian military delegation headed by Admiral Luigi Bineli Mantelli, Chief of the Italian Armed Forces in his office. During the meeting President Barzani welcomed admiral Mantelli and the accompanying delegation and thanked the people and the government of Italy for their supportive role to the Kurdistan Region in its war against the terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
President Barzani also stated that the war that is currently being fought against the terrorists of ISIS is indeed a challenging conflict and that the Peshmerga forces are in need of as much support as possible from the international community. The Peshmerga forces, President Barzani added, are fighting ISIS from Kobane to Khanaqin, which is an area of at least 1500 kilometers.
For his part admiral Luigi Mantelli reiterated the support of the Italian government for the forces of the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi army as they wage the war against ISIS. He added that the Italian government will continue to support the Kurdistan Region militarily as this war is being fought on behalf of the free world against the extremists of IS.
