ISIS steals 1 million ton grain from Iraq
According to a statement by the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture, the Islamic State (ISIS) has stolen 1 million tons of grain from Iraq during the past four months and shipped them to Syria via Mosul.
ISIS sent the wheat and barley from Iraq to the Syrian regions under its control such as Raqqa and Derazur," said Falah Hasan, Iraqi Agriculture Minister. «Since ISIS has taken control over some agricultural areas in Iraq, the government has not been able to control the production of wheat and barley in these areas.”
ISIS has taken control over vast lands in Mosul, Kirkuk, Salahaddin and Anbar provinces which are among the most productive agricultural lands in the country.
