President Barzani meets Peshmerga forces returned from Kobane
“Peshmerga has made history by going to Kobane. You all made us proud. You recorded glory for yourself, your families and your country,” said President Barzani.
President Barzani warmly welcomed the returning Peshmerga forces who had been stationed in Kobane in Syrian Kurdistan.
During the meeting President Barzani expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the Peshmerga forces in general and those stationed in Kobane in particular, adding that the Peshmerga forces in Kobane were conducting the honorable task of protecting the honour and dignity of the people of Kurdistan against the terrorists of the Islamic State.
The President said that he watched Peshmarga convoy on the way to Kabne from television channels. He stressed that he could not control himself and cried when he saw that huge number of the Kurdish people welcomed them in Kurdish cities in Turkey.
He also stated that his tears came down when they returned to Erbil and were welcomed by their family members.
The KRG President Barzani expressed his gratitude to the role of Peshmarga in both Iraqi and Syrian Kurdistan in the fight against the terrorist.
“The pride of protecting your sisters and brothers in another part of Kurdistan was given to you. You all made us proud for your sacrifice.”
President Barzani stated that the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdistan Region are ready to continue providing military and other forms of support to the people of Kobane.
The President also expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the Peshmerga forces who had been martyred by the terrorists since the start of the war in early August.
The President also promised that they would con- tinue to provide assistance to Kurdish fighters in Kobani “As long as they need our help”.
Regarding the issue of independence, President Barzani said that the terrorists had been manipulated to stop the process of independence and referendum in Kurdistan. He added that the process had reached an advanced stage, and the purpose of attacking Kurdistan was to derail the process. "If thousands of IS terrorists, "Barzani said, "come to Kurdistan the process will never stop."
Barzani said that there were two major reasons that the IS militants attacked Kurdistan. First, they wanted to stop the independence process. Second one was the blind support of Sunnis to IS, hoping to control disputed areas under Article 140.
