UK to fur­ther support Pesh­marga Forces

PM Nechir­van Barzani re­ceives Bri­tish Gov­ern­ment’s Se­cu­rity En­voy

The Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment Prime Min­is­ter, Nechir­van Barzani, on Tues­day, Jan­uary 13, 2015, re­ceived the Bri­tish Gov­ern­ment's Se­cu­rity En­voy to Kur­dis­tan Re­gion, Lieu­tenant Gen­eral Sir Si­mon May­all, and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion, which in­cluded the Bri­tish Con­sul to Kur­dis­tan Re­gion An­gus McKee and a num­ber of Bri­tish mil­i­tary of­fi­cers.

Lieu­tenant Gen­eral May­all said that the aim of his visit is to ac­quire a bet­ter un­der­stand- ing of the lat­est mil­i­tary de­vel­op­ments at the fronts and also as­sess the Pesh­marga forces’ needs and train­ing pro­grams pro­vided by the United King­dom. He de­scribed the re­cent vic­to­ries that the Pesh­marga forces have achieved, par­tic­u­larly in Sin­jar and the sur­round­ing ar­eas, as very sig­nif­i­cant in the fight against the Is­lamic State ter­ror­ist or­ga­ni­za­tion.

Gen­eral May­all also de­manded that the KRG Min­istry of Pesh­marga Af­fairs pre­pare a list of its mil­i­tary needs for the Bri­tish rel­e­vant au­thor­i­ties to ex­am­ine it and as­sist the Pesh­marga forces ac­cord­ingly.

Prime Min­is­ter Barzani ex­pressed his grat­i­tude to the Bri­tish gov­ern­ment, which is a lead­ing mem­ber of the in­ter­na­tional coali­tion against ISIS. He re­it­er­ated that the Bri­tish mil­i­tary as­sis­tance, par­tic­u­larly train­ing the Pesh­marga forces, has been of great as­sis­tance. He ex­pressed his hope that the Bri­tish gov­ern­ment’s support to the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion will con­tinue.
