Saudi Arabia to open consulate in Erbil
The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region announced on January 14 that Saudi Arabia is preparing to open a consulate in Erbil, emphasizing that the President of the region is eager to further develop relations with Saudi Arabia.
In a statement released by the Presidency of Kurdistan, it has been disclosed that the Kurdistan Region President, Massoud Barzani met with a delegation from the Saudi Foreign Ministry, headed by Abdul Rahman Ben Ghirman indicating, “The delegation’s visit aimed at opening the Consulate of Saudi Ara- bia in Erbil."
“The delegation expressed satisfaction at the developments in Kurdistan in the past years, and praised the role of the Peshmerga forces in the war against terrorists. It also offered its condolences to the martyrs of the Peshmerga," read the statement.
For his part, Barzani confirmed that Kurdistan is “ready to further develop relations between the two sides.” At the same time he expressed his gratitude for the King of Saudi Arabia, and wished success to the Saudi consul who will be appointed to work in the capital of Erbil.
