Saudi Ara­bia to open con­sulate in Er­bil

The Pres­i­dency of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion an­nounced on Jan­uary 14 that Saudi Ara­bia is pre­par­ing to open a con­sulate in Er­bil, em­pha­siz­ing that the Pres­i­dent of the re­gion is ea­ger to fur­ther de­velop re­la­tions with Saudi Ara­bia.

In a state­ment re­leased by the Pres­i­dency of Kur­dis­tan, it has been dis­closed that the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Pres­i­dent, Mas­soud Barzani met with a del­e­ga­tion from the Saudi For­eign Min­istry, headed by Ab­dul Rah­man Ben Ghir­man in­di­cat­ing, “The del­e­ga­tion’s visit aimed at open­ing the Con­sulate of Saudi Ara- bia in Er­bil."

“The del­e­ga­tion ex­pressed sat­is­fac­tion at the de­vel­op­ments in Kur­dis­tan in the past years, and praised the role of the Pesh­merga forces in the war against ter­ror­ists. It also of­fered its con­do­lences to the martyrs of the Pesh­merga," read the state­ment.

For his part, Barzani con­firmed that Kur­dis­tan is “ready to fur­ther de­velop re­la­tions be­tween the two sides.” At the same time he ex­pressed his grat­i­tude for the King of Saudi Ara­bia, and wished suc­cess to the Saudi con­sul who will be ap­pointed to work in the cap­i­tal of Er­bil.
