Armenia to open consulate general in Erbil
Armenian Ambassador to Iraq Karen Grigoryan visited Erbil last week and met with the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani.
The visit was aimed at discussing ways to boost bilateral relations between Armenia and Kurdistan Region.
Ambassador Grigoryan told PM Barzani that his country is planning to open a consulate general in Erbil in June this year.
Moreover, as another way to boost ties, Erbil will be connected to Yerivan, the Armenian capital, via two direct flights per week, starting from end of this month.
Both parties talked about the historical relations between Armenians and Kurds and the cultural similarities the two nations.
PM Barzani appraised the steps by the Armenian government and reiterated KRG’s full support in implementing their plans to open the consulate general.
“Kurdistan Region will welcome Armenian investors and businessmen to Kurdistan Region and offer them all support and facilitations they will need,” PM Barzani told Ambassador Grigoryan.
