In a meeting with the British Ambassador to Iraq, the Head of the Kurdistan Region Security Council Masrour Barzani requested that the international community provide the Peshmerga with more weapons.

Barzani met with Ambassador Frank Baker on Monday, February 16, 2015 to discuss the latest security situation in Iraq and the fight against Islamic State militants.

Barzani asked the international community to support the Kurdistan Region with further military aid saying, "The Peshmerga are sacrificing their lives. They have insufficient weapons, and even those are too old.

"We believe that the central government in Baghdad cannot solve this issue, we have experience of that.”

Baker updated Barzani on the coalition air strikes against IS and told him that the UK will send more mine disposal equipment and other military hardware to the Kurdistan Region within the next few weeks, and continue to train the Peshmerga.
