Minister Zebari: “If Baghdad doesn’t send Kurdistan’s budget, I will not stay there.”

Iraqi Minister of Finance, Dr. Hoshyar Zebari, reiterates that Iraq will be sending all the budget share and rights of the Kurdistan Region, and if it failed to do so, he would not stay in Baghdad.

While attending the third Sulaimani Forum last week, Minister Zebari addressed the issues between Erbil and Baghdad and expressed his optimism about solving the differences.

"The main source of revenue of Iraq is oil,” Zebari said during the forum organized by the American University of Iraq-Sulaim- ani (AUIS). “We need to diversify our revenue sources rather than fully depend on oil.”

Regarding Kurdistan's share in the Iraqi national budget, Zebari said Kurdistan has always been asking for its 17% and Baghdad has no other choice but to pay that, “if not today, tomorrow.”

"Iraq is not bankrupt; it just needs a better administration. Billions of Dollars are spent in salaries. Moreover, many things in Iraq are free. We need to think of imposing taxes.”
