KRG strongly condemned beheading three Peshmarga hostages by ISIS
In a statement, the Kurdistan Regional Government Council of Ministers strongly condemned the beheading in public of three Peshmarga hostages by the Islamic State terrorist organization, on the eve of Kurdish New Year, Nawroz.
“The killing of three of our heroic Peshmarga soldiers, martyrs Hisham Nabil, Pishtiwan Othman and Rizgar Hama Salih, at the hands of ISIS terrorists, in such a heinous and atrocious manner has shocked and saddened the people of Kurdistan and their friends,” the KRG statement read.
The Islamic State published a video purporting to show the beheading of three Kurdish Peshmarga fighters by militants who threatened to kill "dozens" more of those being held captive.
The six-minute clip, which appeared timed to coincide with celebrations for the Kurdish New Year, showed the Peshmarga wearing orange jumpsuits being decapitated by three black-clad militants, all of whom spoke Kurdish.
The murder of these three heroes, the statement read, in such a barbaric man- ner, is far from any human, religious and ethical principles and is an act that only exists in the dictionary of ISIS terrorists and their alike.
“At the time when we strongly condemn and denounce this horrific crime, we are confident that the terrorists will pay heavy price for this brutal act and will face the hands of justice. The ISIS terrorists must know that they will face severe punishment for their crimes.”
At the end of the statement the KRG extended its condolences to the families of the three martyrs and to the people of Kurdistan.
Last month, another video was published showing captive Peshmarga in cages being interviewed by a Kurdish militant.
More than 1,000 Peshmarga fighters have been killed in combat with the Islamic State militants since they overran a third of Iraq last summer.
Kurdish authorities last week said they had evidence the militants had used chlorine as a chemical weapon against the Peshmarga on at least one occasion.
