Kur­dish Prime Min­is­ter mourns the death of Mo­hammed Bahr al Ulum

In a state­ment on the oc­ca­sion of the death of the well known Shi­ite cleric Mo­hammed Bahr al Ulum, Nechir­van Barzani, the Prime Min­siter of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment (KRG), pub­lished a state­ment on Wed­nes­day, April 8, 2015.

In the state­ment PM Barzani says that in ad­di­tion to be­ing an im­por­tant re­li­gious fig­ure and sci­en­tist, Bahr al Ulum had al­ways stood against tyranny in in sup­port of the op­pressed peo­ple.

“The po­si­tion and stance of this pa­triot and cleric to­wards the Kur­dis­tani na­tion in the con­tem­po­rary po­lit­i­cal his­tory of Iraq is highly re­spected and un­for­get­table.

Barzani says by the death of Bahr al Ulum, Kurds lost a big friend, and it was also a big loss for all Iraqis, “es­pe­cially since in ad­di­tion to his his­tor­i­cal role in the strug­gle of the Iraqi na­tion against dic­ta­tor­ship. He had a vi­tal role in the re­build­ing of the new Iraq.”

“On be half of my­self, the gov­ern­ment and the peo­ple of Kur­dis­tan Re­gion, I, though His Ex­cel­lency Dr. Ibrahim Bahr al Ulum, ex­tend our sin­cere con­do­lences to the fam­ily of the de­ceased, the re­li­gious cler­ics and all the Iraqi peo­ple May God for­give his soul and may he rest in peace.”
