Establishing two voluntarily Peshmarga battalions, will be trained by US

The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS -

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy to Minister of Peshmarga has announced that his ministry is planning to establish two voluntarily Peshmarga battalions which would be trained by the US forces.

According to informa- tion gained by The Kurdish Globe, the ministry will start establishing them next week.

Anwar hajji Othman, the deputy, stated that it has been upon a request from the US and it will be responsible to train, arm and organizing the new battalions.

Recruiting the fighters would require specific qualifications. According to Othman, those who will serve in the battalions should have graduated from secondary level and aged through 18 to 30.

Deputy Othman said that establishing the battalions is expected to be started next week and each Kurdish province will have a share in voluntarily forces.

Othman further added that the ministry is accelerating the efforts to es- tablish the battalions and they would be regulated within the 24 united battalions of the ministry.

The Peshmerga ministry had long been criticized by lawmakers and Kurdish leaders, but following the recent IS attacks on the Kurdistan Region, and Peshmerga troops rushing to the fronts to defend the territory, the force garnered support and appreciation, both locally and internationally.
