On April 13, the Kurdistan Parliament held a session during which it approved the preparation project of the new Kurdistan constitution with a majority of 77 votes in addition to an approval of forming a committee of 21 people.

The committee's task will be preparing the draft constitution law in order to be put to a referendum within 90 days.

At the end of the session, the Parliament speaker, Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, congratulated the Kurdish people for the ratification of the project and said there is no doubt that approving this law is the first step to pave the road for national compromise on the constitution in Kurdistan.

According to Dilshad Shaaban, an MP, the committee consists of professional people and MPs whose task will be preparing the draft of the constitution within 90 days. "The 'Region' word has been removed from Kurdistan in the project because there is a possibility of putting the constitution to a referendum in the disputed areas as well."

Upon finishing the prepa- ration work, the constitution draft will be voted on inside the Parliament before it is submitted to the public opinion.
