President Barzani meets Christians of Duhok and Nineveh
President of Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, met with Christian personalities and clerics in the province of Dohuk on April 23. Barzani's visit aimed to know more about the conditions of displaced people, the future of coexistence, and Islamic State threats in the region.
In a speech, President Barzani told to the attendees that he is aware of their suffering and their pain; he thanked the patience and the steadfastness of Christian brothers. At the same time he stressed that IS did not attack one component only, but targeted everything: people, cultural values, and history.
"IS though they could invade Kurdistan Region easily, but the people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga, who are always a source of pride, have been able to dispel the myth of terrorists and defeat them on all fronts," said Barzani.
He added "There is international sympathy for the people of Kurdistan and we should take a lesson from what happened in order to end the disasters that took place and start a new page,"
In regard to the displaced in the Region, President Barzani stressed that it is a national and humanitarian duty to help the displaced people.
On the other hand, the attendees thanked President Barzani and appreciated his role and the role of Peshmerga forces who sacrifice their lives in order to protect national and religious components. They also paid their tribute to the people of Kurdistan and the government for embracing such a large number of displaced people.
They stressed that Kurdistan Region has become a safe heaven and a place of peace, coexistence and tolerance.
