President Masoud Barzani received a Dutch military delegation on May 14 headed by the Minister of Defense, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. Minister Hennis-Plasschaert and President Barzani discussed the latest developments insofar as the war against the terrorists of the Islamic State is concerned. The two sides also spoke of President Barzani's recent visits to the United States, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Minister Hennis-Plasschaert took the opportunity to praise the Peshmerga forces for their successes against the Islamic State which she described as a common enemy. On the issue of cooperation with and support for the Peshmerga forces, the minister said that the Netherlands would continue to work for the pursuit of assisting the Kurdistan Region with the ultimate aim of defeating the terrorists.

President Barzani expressed his thanks to the people and government of the Netherlands and warmly welcomed Minister Hennis-Plasschaert's statements of support for the Kurdistan Region.

In April, the Dutch government reportedly pledged to provide a number of F-16 warplanes and up to 400 military advisers to support Peshmerga and other Iraqi forces in the fight against IS militants who overran large parts of the country in 2014.
