JICA im­ple­ments wa­ter and sewage projects in Kur­dis­tan Re­gion

Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Prime Min­is­ter, Nechir­van Barzani, re­ceived Mr. Ak­i­hiko Tanaka, head of Ja­pan In­ter­na­tional Co­op­er­a­tion Agency, JICA, and Ja­pan’s Am­bas­sador to Iraq, on Wed­nes­day, May 13, 2015.

Mr. Tanaka ex­pressed his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the as­sis­tance that Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment, KRG, pro­vides to the agency dur­ing the im­ple­men­ta­tion of their projects in the Re­gion.

He briefed the Prime Min­is­ter about the im­ple­menta- tion of wa­ter and sewage treat­ment projects in the cities of Er­bil, Su­ley­ma­nia, Duhok and Hal­abja, which are funded by JICA. Some of th­ese projects have start- ed to be im­ple­mented.

He re­it­er­ated that JICA will con­tinue the im­ple­men­ta­tion of its projects in Iraq in gen­eral, and Kur­dis­tan Re­gion in par­tic­u­lar.

Prime Min­is­ter Barzani ex­pressed his grat­i­tude to JICA, the peo­ple and gov­ern­ment of Ja­pan for their as­sis­tance to the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion in the past and for the projects that are cur­rently un­der im­ple­men­ta­tion.

He pointed out that Kur­dis­tan Re­gion needs to fur­ther de­velop its in- fras­truc­ture and that it can ben­e­fit from Ja­pan’s ex­pe­ri­ence and fund­ing pol­icy, for the im­ple­men­ta­tion of needed projects in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion, par­tic­u­larly the wa­ter and sewage projects which are planned to be im­ple­mented in the city of Er­bil in fu­ture.

Prime Min­is­ter Barzani also ex­pressed his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the train­ing cour­ses that JICA has opened for a num­ber of Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment’s em­ploy­ees.
