President Barzani: KRG wouldn’t hesitate to support Christians
The Assyrian Church of the East decides to make Erbil the seat of their headquarters
Kurdistan Region President, Masoud Barzani, received a delegation from the Assyrian Church of the East in Erbil on June 9. Barzani and the delegation discussed the situation of Christians in Kurdistan, especially the plight of IDPs who have sought refuge in Kurdistan.
The delegation expressed their gratitude to President Barzani and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for providing protection and a refuge to the Christians IDPs who have fled violence from other parts of Iraq.
They also announced that they would convene in Erbil in September to elect a new Patriarch for their Church, and Erbil would become the seat of their Church from now.
President Barzani said the KRG would not waver in its support to the Christians and other minorities as it has done in the past. He also welcomed the decision by the Assyrian Church of the East to make Erbil the seat of their headquarters.
