Baghdad owes Kurdistan IQD19 trillion
Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Finance announced that Baghdad owes more than IQD 19 trillion (approximately US$ 16 billion) to Kurdistan region.
Ahmed Abdlrahman, spokesperson of the KRG Finance Ministry stated in a press conference at the ministry on Monday, June 15, 2015, that during the past 17 months, the total accumulated debts of KRG in Baghdad has reached IQD 19 trillion.
“During 5 months [of 2015] Baghdad has sent IQD 2.85 trillion to Kurdistan, while the region’s budget share for the period is IQD 6.17 trillion,” Abdlrahman told report- ers. “This mean Baghdad owes IQD 3.96 trillion only during these 5 months.”
The Finance Ministry Spokesperson says Baghdad has failed to give Kurdistan Region its financial rights while Kurdistan has met the requirements of the oil export deal with Baghdad.
He also added that during 2014 KRG saved more than IQD 1.5 trillion with a reform strategy, and in the near future the government will announce another saving strategy that has been developed by local and international experts.
