Nechirvan Barzani: Constitution is for all the people of Kurdistan
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has formed a high-level delegation led by deputy to the Head of the party, Nechirvan Barzani, planning to visit the political parties to discuss the presidential law.
The KDP delegation visited its traditional ally Patriotic Union of Kurdistan of former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Change Movement, known as Gorran, in the city of Sulaimani yesterday.
The day before, the delegation visited the Kurdistan Islamic Union and was welcomed by the party leader. Following the meeting, a press conference was arranged for both Barzani and Mohammed Faraj, the KIU leader.
Barzani described the meeting as “positive” and hailed the role of Faraj in the political landscape of Kurdistan, particularly after the parliamentary session held in June 23rd to discuss the amendment of the presidential law.
“The main condition of the parties is consensus and reaching a common understanding over the issue. The constitution is not written for only one person. It is for all the components, and their interests should be taken into consideration,” Barzani said.
“We should think of a constitution which suits all, not only one person. It should be written based on the people’s interests.”
Masrour Barzani, the Head of the National Security Council, was expected to company the delegation. But according to some sources, he was visiting the frontlines of the Kurdish Peshmarga forces near Mosul Dam.
Speaking in press conference, deputies to head of KDP and PUK stressed that the political system of the Kurdistan Region should be parliamentary. Regarding the constitution, Barzani said that it it should be written for all the people of Kurdistan, not only for one person.
Barzani also cited that the KDP discussed the issue of presidential term with the PUK and will do so with other political parties. He said that they have to reach an agreement over the issues.
