Pres­i­dent Barzani Re­ceives a U. S. Con­gres­sional Del­e­ga­tion

Pres­i­dent of Kur­dis­tan Re­gion, Ma­soud Barzani, re­ceived a del­e­ga­tion from the United States Congress which con­sisted of sev­eral mem­bers of both the Se­nate and the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives. Dur­ing the meet­ing Pres­i­dent Barzani warmly wel­comed the del­e­ga­tion and took ad­van­tage of the op­por­tu­nity to ex­press his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the role of the United States and other coali­tion mem­bers in the cur­rent con­flict against the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State.

The del­e­ga­tion be­gan by stat­ing that their pres­ence in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion was first and fore­most to ex­press their ap­pre­ci­a­tion to the peo­ple of Kur­dis­tan for their en­durance and ded­i­ca­tion in the past year. They also ex­pressed their sat­is­fac­tion for the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion's han­dling of the IDPs from the Nin­eveh plain, the al-An­bar province and other ar­eas which had been af­fected by the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State. This is in ad­di­tion to the refugees from Syria, who have found in Kur­dis­tan a safe haven. The con­gres­sional del­e­ga­tion made it clear that the re­la­tion­ship be­tween the United States and the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion of Iraq is of great value to the United States and hoped for even more en­hanced re­la­tions in the near fu­ture.

Pres­i­dent Barzani and the del­e­ga­tion dis­cussed the latest de­vel­op­ments on the war against the Is­lamic State, the cur­rent cri­sis in Kobane, Syr­ian Kur­dis­tan and the re­la­tions be­tween Er­bil and Bagh­dad.
