America’s Independence Day commemorated in Erbil
The American-Kurdish Friendship Association (AKFA) arranged a ceremony in which the 239th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence was commemorated in Erbil on July 4, 2015.
Several local and US officials attended the ceremony including Head of the KRG's Department of Foreign Relations, Falah Mustafa, Erbil Governor Nawzad Hadi, Head of AKFA Sirwan Barzani and the US General Consul in Erbil, Joseph Pennington.
After thanking those who arranged the ceremony, Pennington said that the US independence was for gaining freedom and human rights. He also shed light on the relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States of America.
On his part Minister Mustafa talked about the historical relationship and friendship between the USA and the Kurdish people. He appreciate USA's role in supporting Peshmerga forces in the fight against the Islamic State terrorist groups.
AKFA is an Association which is specialized in reinforcing and cultivating the friendly relationship between the Kurdish and American nations, and thus utilizing each nation’s experience in different life sectors such as: economy, education, culture, arts, sports and science.
