Amer­ica’s In­de­pen­dence Day com­mem­o­rated in Er­bil

The Amer­i­can-Kur­dish Friend­ship As­so­ci­a­tion (AKFA) ar­ranged a cer­e­mony in which the 239th an­niver­sary of the U.S. Dec­la­ra­tion of In­de­pen­dence was com­mem­o­rated in Er­bil on July 4, 2015.

Sev­eral lo­cal and US of­fi­cials at­tended the cer­e­mony in­clud­ing Head of the KRG's Depart­ment of For­eign Re­la­tions, Falah Mustafa, Er­bil Gover­nor Nawzad Hadi, Head of AKFA Sir­wan Barzani and the US Gen­eral Con­sul in Er­bil, Joseph Pen­ning­ton.

Af­ter thank­ing those who ar­ranged the cer­e­mony, Pen­ning­ton said that the US in­de­pen­dence was for gain­ing free­dom and hu­man rights. He also shed light on the re­la­tions be­tween the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and the United States of Amer­ica.

On his part Min­is­ter Mustafa talked about the his­tor­i­cal re­la­tion­ship and friend­ship be­tween the USA and the Kur­dish peo­ple. He ap­pre­ci­ate USA's role in sup­port­ing Pesh­merga forces in the fight against the Is­lamic State ter­ror­ist groups.

AKFA is an As­so­ci­a­tion which is spe­cial­ized in re­in­forc­ing and cul­ti­vat­ing the friendly re­la­tion­ship be­tween the Kur­dish and Amer­i­can na­tions, and thus utiliz­ing each na­tion’s ex­pe­ri­ence in dif­fer­ent life sec­tors such as: econ­omy, ed­u­ca­tion, cul­ture, arts, sports and science.
