Barzani: Peshmerga united in defending Kurdistan
President Masoud Barzani visits Peshmerga trenches during the Eid holiday in several areas
Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani visited Peshmerga forces at the frontline north of Kirkuk on the Eid ul-Fitr feast on Friday, warning soldiers and commanders about looming threats by the Islamic State (IS) group.
The President praised the Peshmerga for confronting the IS terrorist group in a meeting with top commanders and other security officials in Kirkuk. He then left to visit the Peshmerga trenches on the Mekhmour front.
Barzani warned all security forces in the area about looming IS threats stressing that the frontiers of Kirkuk city should be protected vigilantly against possible IS attacks.
Barzani also called on the Peshmerga -- as a national force -- to stay away from political and factional disputes in the area.
He said that despite differences among different Kurdish factions, they were all united in defending Kurdistan.
Barzani expressed surprise about "some talk about the need for two administrations in Kurdistan at this stage," adding that "those who are unhappy with Kurdish are free to choose another place to live."
Barzani called to provide assurances to the people of Mosul about their participation in the city administration prior to the commencement of operations to retake the city from the Islamic State terrorists.
