Bernard Kouchner: a Kurdish state to be formed between Iraqi and Syria

The Kurdish Globe - - News -

The Former French Foreign Minister, Bernard Kouchner, stated that there will be a new state created between Iraq and Syria.

In an interview with the Huffington Post, Kouchner said the borders in the area between Iran and Syria, where the fighting with the Islamic State is going on now, are imposed by old colonialism, by this he means the borders drawn according to the Sykes– Picot Agreement.

According to Kouchner, now the issue is left to the local people who are fighting the ISIS, especially the Kurds.

“I am sure the Kurds will win over ISIS. But we and especially the U.S. has to help Kurds to fight the ISIS,” the French politician told the Huffington Post. “We have helped the Kurds a lot in the past and we will continue to do so.”

Talking about his experience during a visit to Kobane in Syrian Kurdistan, Kouchner said that he witnessed how the Kurdish male and female fighters were fighting against ISIS with very limited military equipment, “hence I be- lieve Bshar al Asad [the Syrian President] has no future and he needs to be replaced by someone else.”
