Sinjar to have a new army unit
According to a rule by Kurdistan Region’s President Massoud Barzani, a new army unit shall be established specifically for Sinjar, which will be assigned to protect Sinjar people and lands.
Qassim Shaho, Peshmara Forces Commander in Sinjar said President Barzani has decided to unite the forces fighting Islamic State in Sinjar in one organized unit, which will consist of 10 brigades. The force shall consist of Muslims and Yezidis.
“The forces in Sinjar are currently more than 6K Peshmarga, having 600 Peshmarga in each brigade,” Commander Shasho explained. “They are all registered to be organized under the Ministry of Peshmarga.”
Shasho argued that this unit will be very significant for protecting Sinjar and its people and all its fighters are from the area and they are ready to fight in all their capacity.
“Any individual or party who does not respect the orders of the President, will not be allowed to stay in the area for a minute and will be treated as ISIS.”
