U. S. Con­sul Gen­eral bids farewell to Kur­dis­tan

The out­go­ing U.S. Con­sul Gen­eral Joseph Pen­ning­ton met with Min­is­ter Falah Mustafa Head of KRG For­eign Re­la­tions to bid farewell and to in­tro­duce his suc­ces­sor Mr. Matthias Mit­man, in Er­bil on Thurs­day, July 25, 2015.

Min­is­ter Mustafa said, “On be­half of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment, I would like to ex­press my full ap­pre­ci­a­tion for your ef­forts to so­lid­ify the sub­stan­tial re­la­tion­ship be­tween the United States of Amer­ica and the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion.”

“Your pres­ence and ac­tive en­gage­ment dur­ing your ten­ure have laid the foun­da­tions for col­lab­o­ra­tion in many ar­eas, and the KRG ap­plauds your con­tri­bu­tion,” the Min­is­ter added.

He wel­comed Mr. Mit­man and as­sured him of the sup- port and as­sis­tance of the KRG Depart­ment of For­eign Re­la­tions to en­sure that his ten­ure in Er­bil is suc­cess­ful.

Mr. Pen­ning­ton thanked the KRG, in par­tic­u­lar the Depart­ment of For­eign Re­la­tions for their as­sis­tance to the U.S. mis­sion in Er­bil. He stated, “It has been a plea­sure to have the op­por­tu­nity to serve in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion. We see the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Gov­ern­ment as a great part­ner. I be­lieve there are any ar­eas that we can fur­ther de­velop our ties and our part­ner­ship will con­tinue to grow.”

The new Con­sul Gen­eral, Mr. Mit­man, ex­pressed com­mit­ment to con­tinue the path of his pre­de­ces­sor to fur­ther con­sol­i­date bi­lat­eral ties be­tween Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and the U.S.
