PM Barzani: Over Two Thousand Yazidis Rescued From IS
12 Yazidi mass graves have been uncovered by Peshmerga
Scores of Kurdish Yazidi bodies, victims of the Islamic State (IS) executions which were discovered in three mass graves, have been buried in a ceremony on Thursday August 13th.
The Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani attended the somber event.
Addressing the attendees, PM Barzani said that the victims had been killed for two simple reasons – because they were Kurds and Yazidis.
The 67 civilians were killed by the jihadists during the IS massacre in Sinjar last year. A total of 12 mass graves have so far been discovered by the Kurdish Peshmerga forces.
PM Barzani said that the enemy has wounded people’s souls by killing their loved ones. “But Kurds are still alive,” he stressed.
He revealed that up to 2,058 Yazidis have so far been rescued from the IS, and promised to continue trying to save those who are still suffering under the extremists’ rule.
Commenting on Yazidis migrating to Europe, Barzani said that Yazidi religion and culture is irrevocably connected to Sinjar, on their forefathers’ land.
With Muslim, Christian and Yazidi religious leaders attending the ceremony, PM Barzani said that the spirit of coexistence gives all the power to go on.
