Masrour Barzani: We Are the Most Effective Force on Ground
The US delegation called on the Kurdish political parties to protect the unity of Kurdistan
Iraqi Kurdistan’s security is on US top priority, said the US President Barack Obama’s Deputy Special Envoy to the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS Brett McGurk, in a meeting with the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council Masrour Barzani on Monday, August 17, 2015.
McGurk was accompanied by the US Consul General in Erbil Mathias Mitmann and a number of diplomats and military officers.
The meeting focused on the security and politi- cal issues in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Middle East as well as the developments in the war against ISIS.
Both agreed on the need of a larger international engagement and support for the fighting actors on the grounds by members of the Coalition. “The Kurdistan Region is an active ally of US,” said the Ambassador, emphasizing on US’s continued support to the Peshmarga forces. He expressed the American’s respect for the losses of the Peshmarga in this war.
On his part, Masrour Barzani reminded of the needs of the Peshmarga forces in this war. “We as Kurds are proud that we are the most effective and active force against ISIS terrorists.”
They also discussed the internal political issues in Kurdistan Region. The visiting delegation reemphasized on the need of dialogue and understanding for the issues of Kurdistan Region and said that the security and stability of the Region is of US vital importance and priority.
