Barzani de­scribes war against the ter­ror­ists as “sa­cred war”

Kur­dis­tan re­gion Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani re­ceived US Marine Gen­eral Joseph Dun­ford, the chair­man of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion Tues­day.

The two lead­ers dis­cussed the fight against ISIS and the po­si­tion of the Pesh­merga on the front­lines, ac­cord­ing to a state­ment re­leased by Barzani’s of­fice.

“We are do­ing a sa­cred duty in fight­ing against ISIS, be­cause we fight an or­ga­ni­za­tion which does not have hu­man­i­tar­ian con­scious­ness,” the state­ment quoted Barzani as say­ing.

Ac­cord­ing to the state­ment, Barzani and Dun­ford ex­changed ideas with re­gards to ISIS and Pesh­merga po­si­tions on the front­lines; Dun­ford re­port­edly thanked the Kur­dis­tan re­gion for stop­ping ISIS from any fur­ther ad­vances and fa­vor­ing the US in fight­ing ISIS on the ground.

Pres­i­dent Barzani took the op­por­tu­nity to re­it­er­ate his grat­i­tude on be­half of the peo­ple of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion for the sup­port of the in­ter­na­tional al­lies led by the United States in the war against the ter­ror­ists.

Kur­dis­tan re­gion pres­i­dency Chief-of-Staff Fuad Hus­sein, Qubad Tal­a­bani, deputy prime min­is­ter of the Kur­dis­tan re­gional gov­ern­ment, and Jabar Yawar, the chief of staff of the Pesh­merga min­istry, also at­tended the meet­ing.

Pres­i­dent Barzani Meets U.N. Spe­cial Rep­re­sen­ta­tive for Iraq

Barzani also re­ceived the Iraq en­voy of the United Na­tions Sec­re­tary Gen­eral, Mr. Jan Ku­bis last week. Dur­ing the meet­ing Pres­i­dent Barzani and Mr. Ku­bis dis­cussed the lat­est de­vel­op­ments in the war be­tween the free world and the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State in which the Pesh­merga forces are a crit­i­cal part. Pres­i­dent Barzani spoke of the progress that has been made against the ter­ror­ists and the fu­ture plans to com­pletely rid the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and the en­tirety of Iraq of the ter­ror­ists.

The two sides also spoke of the in­ter­nal is­sues in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion fol­low­ing the events ear­lier this week where peace­ful protests were politi­cized and were turned into acts of vi­o­lence against the Kur­dis­tan Demo­cratic Party in the towns of Qal­adize, Sayd Sadiq and Kalar. Mr. Ku­bis stated that those who were re­spon­si­ble for the vi­o­lence which un­for­tu­nately led to life loss and prop­erty dam­ages must be faced with jus­tice and added that the po­lit­i­cal sit­u­a­tion in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion should be solved very soon es­pe­cially be­cause of the fact that the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion in par­tic­u­lar and the Mid­dle East re­gion in gen­eral is fac­ing a ma­jor threat from the ter­ror­ists which should be ev­ery­one's pri­or­ity.

Barzani meets Bri­tish am­bas­sador to Iraq

Barzani met with the Bri­tish am­bas­sador to Iraq, Frank Baker to dis­cuss the po­lit­i­cal and se­cu­rity sit­u­a­tion in the re­gion and ways to con­front ISIS in Iraq.

Barzani and Baker also talked about the re­la­tions be­tween the Kur­dis­tan re­gion and the fed­eral gov­ern­ment and the con­di­tions of the fight against the ter­ror­ists.
