Barzani describes war against the terrorists as “sacred war”
President Barzani meets with US Joint Chiefs chairman
Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani received US Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and his accompanying delegation Tuesday.
The two leaders discussed the fight against ISIS and the position of the Peshmerga on the frontlines, according to a statement released by Barzani’s office.
“We are doing a sacred duty in fighting against ISIS, because we fight an organization which does not have humanitarian consciousness,” the statement quoted Barzani as saying.
According to the statement, Barzani and Dunford exchanged ideas with regards to ISIS and Peshmerga positions on the frontlines; Dunford reportedly thanked the Kurdistan region for stopping ISIS from any further advances and favoring the US in fighting ISIS on the ground.
President Barzani took the opportunity to reiterate his gratitude on behalf of the people of the Kurdistan Region for the support of the international allies led by the United States in the war against the terrorists.
Kurdistan region presidency Chief-of-Staff Fuad Hussein, Qubad Talabani, deputy prime minister of the Kurdistan regional government, and Jabar Yawar, the chief of staff of the Peshmerga ministry, also attended the meeting.

Barzani also received the Iraq envoy of the United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Jan Kubis last week. During the meeting President Barzani and Mr. Kubis discussed the latest developments in the war between the free world and the terrorists of the Islamic State in which the Peshmerga forces are a critical part. President Barzani spoke of the progress that has been made against the terrorists and the future plans to completely rid the Kurdistan Region and the entirety of Iraq of the terrorists.
The two sides also spoke of the internal issues in the Kurdistan Region following the events earlier this week where peaceful protests were politicized and were turned into acts of violence against the Kurdistan Democratic Party in the towns of Qaladize, Sayd Sadiq and Kalar. Mr. Kubis stated that those who were responsible for the violence which unfortunately led to life loss and property damages must be faced with justice and added that the political situation in the Kurdistan Region should be solved very soon especially because of the fact that the Kurdistan Region in particular and the Middle East region in general is facing a major threat from the terrorists which should be everyone's priority.
