Barzani Congratulates Peshmerga for Liberating Sinjar
On Friday, Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani confirmed Peshmerga victory and full liberation of the Kurdish Yazidi-majority town of Sinjar.
After the liberation of Sinjar town by the Kurdish forces, Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani held a press conference inside Sinjar and said it was a historical day for Kurdish struggle especially for the Yazidis.
“It’s a historical struggle to free Sinjar,” said Barzani. “We fulfilled the promise to retake Sinjar from Islamic State terrorists and Sinjari people aren't alone and all Kurdish people with them and they are part of Kurdistan and they should held their head high and they are symbol of Kurdistan.”
Barzani congratulated Peshmerga and the people of Kurdistan, especially the Yazidi people. He also thanked US government and international coalition force for supporting the operation.
“ISIS committed huge crimes in Iraq and Syria, but it did the most evil ones in Sinjar,” he said. “The saving Sinjar operation may be blessed for especially people of Sinjar and my Yazidi brothers.”
“Only Peshmerga force played a role in freeing Sinjar and only Kurdistan flag will be flying and none of the parties flags will be allowed”, added Barzani.
"Sinjar is very important because it has become a symbol of the injustice against the people of Kurdistan," Barzani reminded the world.
After Peshmerga forces entered the the town for the first time after 15 months of ISIS control, they raised a large Kurdistan flag on the Sinjar Silo— a symbol of Pesh- merga and Kurdistan victory over IS group.
