KDP Congratulates President Barzani for Sinjar victory
The Kurdistan Democratic Party, KDP, led by Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani issued a statement following Sinjar liberation operation, congratulating Barzani for supervising the Peshmerga forces and the historic success in defeating ISIS.
The Peshmerga fighters drove back the ISIS terrorists in the predominantly Yazidi city of Sinjar in only two days, proving once again to the world that they are the most reliable ground force in the region fighting against terror.
“The Peshmerga forces have been protecting Kurdistan and humanity as well as the high values from savagery and neofascism,” the statement said.
On Friday, the Kurdish forces, backed by the US-led fighter jets, started an intensive offensive against the ISIS terrorists in the city, killing hundreds of them.
The success was not only militarily, the KDP said, but it was also important in healing the wounds of the genocide against the Yazidi people caused by the inhumane acts of enslaving, abducting and raping the Kurdish girls.
As ISIS attacked the city of Sinjar last August, thousands of Yazidis fled from the terrorists, leaving hundreds trapped on Sinjar Mountain where many died.
The KDP of Barzani has been the most powerful political party in the city of Sinjar and there are thousands of Yazidi men and women who are loyal to the party. The KDP was strongly criticized when the city fell to ISIS and its fighters could not protect the citizens.
The KDP described the ISIS attacks of last year as “unexpected and with extreme force”.
Fadhil Mirani, Secre- tary of KDP Politburo, congratulated President Barzani and the people of Kurdistan for the great victory. He said that the Kurds would never forget the day when the Kurdish flag was raised over the city.
Mirani added that retaking the city has renewed trust and confidence in the hearts of all Kurds, stressing that it is part of the holy land of Kurdistan Region. He thanked President Barzani for keeping his promises to liberate Sinjar and opening a new door for Peshmerga.
