Political parties in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region consider the New Year message by President Masoud Barzani a good step forward in dealing with the current political deadlock.

In a message published on the Kurdistan Region Presidency website on December 31, 2015, Barzani proposed three scenarios, asking the political parties to agree upon one. “I call on all parties to settle this [presidency] issue, by either deciding on elections for a new president, or name a new president until 2017, or agree on the status quo until 2017,” Barzani said.

Muna Qahwachi, head of Turkmman Reform and Progression Bloc at the Kurdistan parliament said "Our bloc supports president Barzani's attempts and take them in to consideration. The political sides need to ease their tensions through dialogue and conversation."

"Our party congratulates president Barzani and wishes him a happy new year. His message focuses on unity and the protection of the Kurdistan Region's public interests," Qahwachi said.

She reiterates her party's support for the Kurdistan Regional Government on taking reformation steps. She supported Barzani's initiative for holding a referendum towards Kurdistan independence.

KIU politburo also released a statement after Barzani's message. KIU asks all the political parties to look at Barzani's message optimistically.

"The political parties need to deal with the current situation with tolerance and acceptance. The KIU supports general referendum for declaring an independent country of Kurdistan," read the statement.

Bahzad Darwesh a KIU parliament member said that Barzani's initiative should be put in to practice in order to get ready for the referendum.

"President Barzani always has delighting messages for the people of Kurdistan. I hope all the political sides will read his message carefully and be cooperative with him so Kurdistan can be rescued from the crises," said Bahzad.

Bahzad hoped the financial crisis will be resolved soon and the issues regarding employees' payments will be figured out.

Waheed Yaqo Hirmiz, head of Syriac, Assyrian, and Chaldean People Bloc at the Kurdistan Parliament, said the issues can be resolved if the reformations steps are put in to practice with strong wills.

"Barzani has always been successful in resolving the local issues. We need to support him this time also so that we can reach our great purpose which is an independent Kurdish state," said Hirmiz.
