U. S. Pro­vides Win­ter Re­lief Sup­plies to Dis­placed Peo­ple

The U.S. Consul Gen­eral in Er­bil, Matthias Mit­man, joined with UNICEF and lo­cal NGOs in Er­bil on De­cem­ber 31 to dis­trib­ute al­most 2,500 sets of chil­dren’s cloth­ing and blan­kets at Ba­harka Camp, where thou­sands of fam­i­lies have fled to es­cape Da’esh.

The dis­tri­bu­tion is part of larger U.S. ef­forts to pro­vide win­ter re­lief sup­plies to in­ter­nally dis­placed peo­ple and refugees in need of as­sis­tance through­out Iraq.

The United States is pro­vid­ing cloth­ing, coats and other crit­i­cally needed items for more than 500,000 Iraqi chil­dren. The United States is also dis­tribut­ing blan­kets, hygiene kits, wa­ter stor­age con­tain­ers, kerosene heaters, and so­lar lights to help in­ter­nally dis­placed peo­ple and refugees cope with the cold weather, par­tic­u­larly in north­ern in Iraq.

The United States has pro­vided more than $603 mil­lion in life-sav­ing as­sis­tance for the Iraqi peo­ple since the start of the cri­sis.
