Switzerland to Extend Humanitarian Support for KRG

The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS -

The Swiss Ambassador to Iraq has promised his country’s extended humanitarian support to be delivered to the Kurdistan Region via the international organizations in the near future.

Switzerland’s newly-appointed Ambassador HansPeter Lenz met with Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani in Erbil on Thursday, January 28th.

Discussing the latest developments in the war against the Islamic State (IS), Lenz praised the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for hosting a huge number of refugees and internally displaced people while it is experiencing an economic crisis.

The Swiss envoy reiterated that his country is willing to provide further humanitarian aid for the refugees and IDPs settled in the Kurdistan Region; and the assistance will be delivered via international organizations or bilateral efforts between KRG and the Swiss government.

He promised that Switzerland will stand with the Kurdistan Region until it overcomes the crises.

Barzani said that providing a safe haven for people escaping the brutality of IS is an action to serve humanity; but the international community has not yet provided enough support for these desperate people.

The pair also discussed political, security and economic crises in the region as well as disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.
