Gas pipeline explodes overnight near Kirkuk
A gas pipeline exploded overnight causing a large fire in Shwan district near the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, police sources said.
Head of Kirkuk’s General Police Directorate Sarhad Qader said there were no casualties as a result of the blast and that authorities were searching for suspects.
“We do not have information about who was behind this, because the explosion occurred at night,” Qader said.
Media channels obtained video of the explosion from a witness which showed a fire in the area where the pipeline is said to be located.
The interior ministry issued a statement saying an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blast and that the findings would be released to the public.
