Barzani, Gen Austin Dis­cuss Cur­rent Crises

Pres­i­dent of Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Ma­soud Barzani re­ceived a United States mil­i­tary and diplo­matic del­e­ga­tion headed by Gen­eral Lloyd Austin, the Com­man­der of the United States Armed Forces. The meet­ing was at­tended by a num­ber of United States and Kur­dis­tan Re­gion of­fi­cials in­clud­ing the U.S. am­bas­sador to Iraq, Mr. Stu­art Jones and the Chan­cel­lor of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Se­cu­rity Coun­cil, Mr. Mas­rour Barzani.

Gen­eral Austin dis­cussed the op­er­a­tions against the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State in both Iraq and Syria and added that the en­emy has wit­nessed a de­ci­sive de­feat af­ter the op­er­a­tions in Sin­jar and Ra­madi. Gen­eral Austin also stated that dur­ing his re­cent vis­its to the Gulf States of Kuwait and Bahrain he had made ref­er­ence to the brav­ery of the Pesh­merga forces and the ur­gent need to con­tinue to sup­port the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion.

Pres­i­dent Barzani stated that on be­half of the Pesh­merga forces, he is ap­pre­cia­tive of the sup­port that has been given to the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion by the US-led coali­tion against the ter­ror­ists. The two sides spoke of the cur­rent eco­nomic cri­sis fac­ing Iraq in gen­eral and the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion in par­tic­u­lar and the need for an ur­gent so­lu­tion to the cri­sis.
