The Kurdish Globe - - NEWS -

On Thursday, President Masoud Barzani discussed Erbil's political crisis with Baghdad as well as the upcoming Mosul offensive with Frank Baker, the United Kingdom's ambassador to Iraq.

"During the meeting President Barzani and Ambassador Baker spoke of the political crisis in Baghdad and its effects on the Kurdistan Region. They both agreed that there ought to be a speedy resolution to the crisis," read a statement by Barzani's office.

In the meeting, the statement continued, "Ambassador Baker also spoke of the operation to liberate Mosul and President Barzani reiterated his position that a political solution to post-Islamic State Mosul is as, if not more, important as the military operation itself."

"The diversity of Mosul must be given careful consideration prior to the military operation and that the day after must be planned for the pursuit of the prosperity of the people of Mosul who have been terrorized by the Islamic State since June of 2014," Barzani said.

In November 2015 Brit- ish Foreign Minister Philip Hammond revealed that his country had sent large shipments of weapons to Kurdish Peshmerga forces and would send more in the future.

Barzani Receives a United States Delegation

President Masoud Barzani received a United States delegation headed by Mr. Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. President Barzani and Mr. McGurk spoke of the current political situation in Iraq and how there ought to be immediate actions taken in order to prevent a vacuum.

The two sides also spoke of the upcoming Mosul operation and the need for a political solution to the crisis in Mosul aside from the presence of the terrorists. The political solution to the issues facing the numerous components of Mosul is equally important to the military operation to liberate the city, stated the President.

Barzani Meets Italian Government Delegation

Barzani met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Vincenzo Amendola and an accompanying government delegation on April 6, to discuss mutual ties, Italy’s support to the Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces in the fight against ISIS, and plans by Italy to maintain and repair the Mosul Dam.

Mr. Amendola praised the leadership of President Barzani and reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to continue to support the peshmerga forces in the fight against the common enemy of ISIS. He also expressed his country’s readiness to expand ties with the KRG in investment.

President Barzani thanked the people and government of Italy for their prompt action, as part of the international coalition, to protect the Kurdistan Region in the difficult days following the onslaught of ISIS in August 2014, and their support since then.

They also discussed plans by an Italian company to repair and maintain the Mosul Dam. The President said that the KRG would provide all the necessary assistance needed to safeguard the Dam.
