Barzani: Agree­ment Needed on Post Lib­er­a­tion of Mo­sul

Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani re­ceived a United State govern­ment del­e­ga­tion headed by Gen­eral Joseph Vo­tel, the Com­man­der of the United States Cen­tral Com­mand. The meet­ing was at­tended by a num­ber of United States mil­i­tary per­son­nel as well as the United States am­bas­sador to Iraq. Ac­com­pa­ny­ing the Pres­i­dent was a num­ber of mil­i­tary of­fi­cials from the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion as well the Prime Min­is­ter of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gional Govern­ment and the Chan­cel­lor of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Se­cu­rity Coun­cil.

The meet­ing was started by dis­cussing the cur­rent po­lit­i­cal tur­moil in Bagh­dad and both sides agreed that there needs to be a speedy so­lu­tion to the cri­sis as that cri­sis has a neg­a­tive ef­fect on the on­go­ing war against the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State.

Pres­i­dent Barzani re­peated his ap­pre­ci­a­tion on be­half of the peo­ple of the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion to the United States and other al­lies for their mil­i­tary sup­port against the ter­ror­ists. On his part Gen­eral Vo­tel ex­pressed his sat­is­fac­tion and ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the co­op­er­a­tion and pro­fes­sion­al­ism of the Pesh­merga forces.

Pres­i­dent Barzani and Gen­eral Vo­tel also spoke of the Mo­sul op­er­a­tion against the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State and how the pres­ence of the ter­ror­ists in Mo­sul, one of Iraq's largest cities, de­lays all other progress in Iraq. Pres­i­dent Barzani re­it­er­ated his po­si­tion of plan­ning for post lib­er­a­tion man­age­ment of the af­fairs of Mo­sul and how that step is of equal im­por­tance to the mil­i­tary op­er­a­tion to lib­er­ate the city.

Barzani, US Vice Pres­i­dent dis­cuss po­lit­i­cal de­vel­op­ments in Iraq

Ear­lier this last week, US Vice Pres­i­dent Joe Bi­den spoke with Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani on Mon­day to dis­cuss po­lit­i­cal de­vel­op­ments in Iraq and prepa­ra­tions to lib­er­ate the city of Mo­sul from ISIS ter­ror­ists.

They agreed to con­tinue their close con­sul­ta­tions on the de­vel­op­ing sit­u­a­tion in Iraq, and stressed the need for co­or­di­na­tion to con­front the po­lit­i­cal chal­lenges in the country.

They also dis­cussed prepa­ra­tions for the lib­er­a­tion of Mo­sul, in­clud­ing co­op­er­a­tion among the pesh­merga forces, the coali­tion forces, and the Iraqi forces.

French De­fense Min­is­ter pledges to con­tinue Arm­ing Pesh­merga

Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani re­ceived a French de­fense del­e­ga­tion headed by Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, the Min­is­ter of De­fense and Vet­eran Af­fairs. Mr. Le Drian be­gan the meet­ing by con­vey­ing to Pres­i­dent Barzani the greet­ing of Pres­i­dent Fran­cois Hol­lande and added that the govern­ment of France will con­tinue to sup­port the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and Iraq as they strive to­wards the an­ni­hi­la­tion of the ter­ror­ists of the Is­lamic State.

Pres­i­dent Barzani re­it­er­ated his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for France and other al­lies in the war against ter­ror­ism and added that the ter­ror­ists pose a di­rect threat to the en­tirety of the free world.

Pres­i­dent Barzani and Mr. Le Drian spoke of the op­er­a­tion to li­brate the city of Mo­sul which has been in the hands of the ter­ror­ists since June of 2014. Pres­i­dent Barzani re­peat- ed his po­si­tion of pre­par­ing for the "day af­ter" the lib­er­a­tion of Mo­sul and how there needs to be a col­lec­tive ef­fort to pre­vent any acts of re­venge as well as en­sur­ing that there is rep­re­sen­ta­tion for all the com­po­nents of the Mo­sul prov­ince es­pe­cially those who were vic­tim­ized by the ter­ror­ists such as the Yezidi Kurds, the Chris­tians and many other eth­nic and re­li­gious groups in the Nin­eveh plain.
