Barzani and OIR Com­man­der Dis­cussing ISIS

On Tues­day, Kur­dis­tan Re­gion Pres­i­dent Ma­soud Barzani met with Lt. Gen. Sean MacFar­land, the head of Op­er­a­tion In­her­ent Re­solve (OIR), and his ac­com­pa­ny­ing del­e­ga­tion to dis­cuss the lat­est se­cu­rity de­vel­op­ments in Iraq and Kur­dis­tan Re­gion.

MacFar­land briefed Barzani on the cur­rent sit­u­a­tion in the war on Is­lamic State (ISIS), in­clud­ing the Fallujah op­er­a­tion and prepa­ra­tions to re-take Mo­sul.

He re­it­er­ated the im­por­tance of co­op­er­a­tion be­tween Kur­dish Pesh­merga forces and the US-led coali­tion in or­der to erad­i­cate IS in the re­gion.

His del­e­ga­tion also praised the role of the Kur­dish Pesh­merga forces for their cru­cial con­tri­bu­tion to the anti-ter­ror­ism cam­paign in north­ern Iraq.

How­ever, Barzani has pre­vi­ously made it clear that the par­tic­i­pa­tion of Pesh­merga in the Mo­sul op­er­a­tion will be on con­di­tion of a prior agree­ment that guar­an­tees the rights of dif­fer­ent com­po­nents in Mo­sul for the post-ISIS era.

Barzani and Iraq's par­lia­ment speaker stress di­a­logue to re­solve po­lit­i­cal cri­sis in Baghdad

For the sec­ond time this month, Speaker of the Iraqi Par­lia­ment Salim Jabouri ar­rived in the Kur­dis­tan Re­gion and to­day met with Kur­dish leader Ma­soud Barzani to dis­cuss Baghdad’s po­lit­i­cal cri­sis and re­cent mil­i­tary de­vel­op­ments against the Is­lamic State (ISIS). They also dis­cussed Kur­dish mem­bers of the Iraqi Par­lia­ment about their re­turn to Baghdad after they left the city when an­gry protesters stormed the par­lia­ment build­ing late last month.

Barzani and Jabouri em­pha­sized that di­a­logue and mu­tual un­der­stand­ing would be the only means to re­solve the cri­sis in Iraq.
