Barzani and OIR Commander Discussing ISIS
On Tuesday, Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani met with Lt. Gen. Sean MacFarland, the head of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR), and his accompanying delegation to discuss the latest security developments in Iraq and Kurdistan Region.
MacFarland briefed Barzani on the current situation in the war on Islamic State (ISIS), including the Fallujah operation and preparations to re-take Mosul.
He reiterated the importance of cooperation between Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the US-led coalition in order to eradicate IS in the region.
His delegation also praised the role of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces for their crucial contribution to the anti-terrorism campaign in northern Iraq.
However, Barzani has previously made it clear that the participation of Peshmerga in the Mosul operation will be on condition of a prior agreement that guarantees the rights of different components in Mosul for the post-ISIS era.
