Two Kurdish parties in Turkey, the Participatory Democracy Party (KADEP) and Kurdistan Democratic Party-Turkey (PDKT) announced Friday they have agreed to merge, in a first step towards providing an alternative to other well established Kurdish parties in the country.

Party officials said preparations and talks had taken place over the past eight months to realize their merger, which they said would officially be signed on May 27 in a special ceremony.

“We are planning to open a new chapter in Kurdish political history through the merger which will provide a new approach in representing the Kurdish people,” said PDK-T leader, Mehmet Emin Kardas.
