Developer’s accusation is refuted by Council official

Bray People - - News -

CLAIMS that a Council official told a developer there was a 99.5 per cent chance that a proposed draft local area plan would be voted in have been refuted at a meeting of Wicklow County Council.

The matter was raised on Monday when it emerged that members had received a copy of a letter sent by the developer to their legal team asking that the matter be investigated.

It was alleged that the official met with the developer, a landowner, and a member of Wicklow County Council at a Dublin hotel, and said that he was ‘almost 100 per cent certain’ that if the developer was to purchase the land from the landowner, that his investment would be secure when the plan including these zoned lands were adopted.

When the issue was raised on Monday, Director of Services Des O’Brien told members that he has spoken to the official and that he was confident no such assurances were made. He told members that he had no reason to doubt the member of staff and that it was very unfair for him to have to put up with such allegations.
