DOROTHY DONNELLY was left speechless last Saturday night when her family threw her a surprise 60th birthday party.

Dorothy who runs Herbie’s Alterations with her husband Herbie, thought that she was going for a quite family meal when she walked into the function room of the Martello to be surprised by her family and friends.

Her sister Roseleen made the trip from England and her two sisters Marie and Teresa came up from Arklow to celebrate her birthday.

Only two of her five grandkids, Casey and Nathan, made it to the party. Kaymann, the eldest grandchild was on holiday while the two youngest, Louis and Dean who are aged three and five were safely tucked away in their beds.

Dorothy’s four children, Ciara, Donna, Natalie and Glenn organised the surprise and decorated the room with a storyboard of pictures of their mom from when she was a young girl in Dun Laoghaire to when she got married and her life in Bray after.

It took a few stiff drinks and about an hour for Dorothy to get over the shock of the surprise.

She was delighted to have so many of her lose family and friends all in the one room to celebrate her 60th. Guests were treated to a tasty buffet while the DJ played some oldies mixed with chart tunes and everybody danced the night away.

The party didn’t end when the DJ stopped and the Donnelly family and friends went back to Dorothy and Herbie’s house in Old Court to continue the party. There was no stopping the celebrations with everyone not going to bed and still partying at 8.30 the next morning.

Dorothy Donnelly and the gang celebrate her 60th birthday in the Martello.
